Expect the unexpected at the delightful Atlantic Music Festival. It's another full week of concerts ahead for AMF, in residence on the Colby College campus in Waterville.
This is an incredibly eclectic concert series, where a Beethoven piano concerto shares the program with Fratres by Aarvo Part, and a tribute to “Baroque, Then and Now” includes Vivaldi and Corelli—plus Hindemith and PDQ Bach. AMF's family concert features beloved works by Saint-Saens and Poulenc; Friday takes the audience to the frontiers of new music, from Glass' Mad Rush to fascinating works by Cage, Cuckson and Muhly. Each Atlantic Music Festival performance offers musical treats for all tastes.
The week begins with the AMF Orchestra in concert under the direction of Delaware Symphony music director David Amado on Saturday, July 24th at 7 PM in Strider Theater (Runnals Building). Amado will be joined by pianist Bruce Brubaker for Beethoven's Piano Concerto #1 (the versatile Mr. Brubaker will return to play the Philip Glass piece in the July 30th concert). The festival continues with three exciting chamber concerts: Wednesday, July 28th 7 PM (Baroque) in Lorimer Chapel, Thursday, July 29th (Family Concert) also in Lorimer at 7 PM, and Friday, July 30th (NOW!) in Strider Theater 7 PM.
